Last week I digitized a design of an abstract modern flower that I took a picture of in Thailand. I thought it stitched out pretty nicely so I decided to go for it and stitch it out on a denim skirt.
I found these denim skirts on the clearance rack at Old Navy for $7. (Old Navy is truly which is a wealth of great inexpensive items for machine embroidery projects.)
I started by a scaling down the Thailand flower design to be about 70% of the original size. So now I have two different versions of the Thailand flower, a large one and a smaller one. I then printed out the designs to scale and pinned them on top of my skirt to get a sense for placement. I marked the center points of where I thought the flowers should go. Then I stuck the denim skirt on hooped stabilizer that had been sprayed with adhesive.
After a good hour or so of stitching, I now have a funky sweet looking denim skirt.
