Our neighborhood has become quite the baby factory this past week. My friend and neighbor, Maggie, of the “Pregnant (not fat)” fame had her baby, Alice, on Wednesday and our other neighbor, Sabeena had her baby, Sadie, on Wednesday as well. I had already planned on giving Maggie my favorite baby chick onesie I had made a while ago, but I had nothing made for Sabeena and her child.

After making quite a few “year of the snake” onesies last week, I was anxious to do something new. I remembered that I had bought a pack of bibs over the summer and had done nothing with them yet. So I pulled one out, found a coordinating fabric and pulled together an idea.

I love the simple, preppy look of the whale design I had created a few months ago but hadn’t found many opportunities to stitch it out. So I decided to appliqué it on a bib with the baby’s name.  I also wanted a distinct typeface so I rendered it out using the typeface, Alice.

I was a little nervous about stitching on these bibs because they are made of two layers. I thought the top layer might move around and buckle. But it worked out okay. I am just hoping that the recipients don’t think a pink whale is too weird!

You, too, can make a weird whale bib!  Check out the whale design on my Etsy store.
