An ornament applique design for Free Embroidery Design Monday

And the Christmas theme continues…. The past three weeks of free holiday embroidery and applique designs seem to have been a hit. So, I am going to keep going with it! In my quest to find holiday icons to digitize – I came up with the idea of digitizing an ornament. Ok – it’s not the most original idea – but it’s a classic shape, it fits in a 4″ x 4″ hoop, and you can customize the inside with a monogram or special message. And it’s free!

Here are three suggestions for how you might use this design.

1) Appliqué them with different Christmas fabrics on a Christmas tree skirt.

2) Add a monogram in the center of the ornament and add a Christmas flair to a t-shirt of a dress for a little girl.

3) Turn it into an ornament.  If you treat it like it were a patch – you could stitch this out, trim it and hang it on your Christmas tree.

Have fun!

Free machine embroidery design Monday – a simple duck appliqué

This past weekend while at our family reunion in Tennessee, we snuck out to explore downtown Nashville. (Anything to get away from that nasty hotel room). One of our favorite places to go in downtown Nashville is Hatch Show Print, a traditional printing shop known for their bold and creative posters and prints. They have tons of old Grand Ole Opry posters as well as posters advertising more contemporary concerts, and they also have really cool art prints.

A few years ago we bought a duck poster at Hatch Show and have always hung it in our current baby room. Now that our youngest is almost 4 – we might have to find a creative way to repurpose it or pass it along to another little one. Anyway – being at Hatch Show reminded me of how much I love this particular print. And my kids, trailing behind me on the streets of Nashville, reminded me of a mother duck with her little ones in a row.

So there you have the inspiration for this weeks free machine appliqué design: a duck. And I sized it to fit in a 4″ x 4″ hoop. I hope you find this one useful. I am thinking it might be cute on a baby towel or t-shirt combined with a name? Let me know if you use it and please send the pics!

Free Embroidery Design Monday: an apple appliqué for back to school items!

Apple applique design - fits in 4" x 4" hoop.
Apple applique design – fits in 4″ x 4″ hoop.

Hello and happy free machine embroidery design Monday!  And guess what – it’s actually (almost) Monday! I got a bit behind on the blog when traveling in July but now I am back on track, and am thrilled that I am getting my free embroidery designs posted on Monday.  But enough about me – let’s talk about this new free design.

I noticed that my embroidery friends on Facebook were already working on fall designs and fall related project so I thought a fall-themed design might be appreciated by my followers.  With kids returning to school in the next month or so an apple seems like the perfect appliqué design to share.

This applique has been created with the “trim in place” setting so a placement line will be stitched out first guiding you as to where to place your applique fabric.  It should also fit nicely in a 4″ x 4″ hoop.  I hope you enjoy it and would love to see pictures if you stitch it out.
